Ghislaine Maxwell’s brother has confirmed his sister IS married saying she was happily living her life with her “stepchildren” when the FBI arrested her.
In his first televised interview in more than 30 years since their crooked father, Robert Maxwell’s death, Ian Maxwell launched a robust defence of his youngest sibling.
He told how the last time he spoke to her was in June 2020, a month before she was arrested, when they along with five other siblings were together in London.
Fearing she could be arrested as part of the probe into her former boyfriend, paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, she told him: “Ian, I don’t want you to be in a situation where someone is going to put pressure on you.
“I am going to take the pressure so that none of you have to, not Scott, not Kev. I am going to deal with it.”
Maxwell was referring to Scott Borgerson, long rumoured to have married the British socialite but had not been confirmed by her or her family.
Borgerson, 44, has a 13-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Rebecca, who he divorced before moving in with Maxwell to a £1.73 million home in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.
The ‘Kev’ she refers to is thought to be her other brother, Kevin.
Mr Maxwell told how his sister, 59, was getting on with her life when she was arrested at her home in a remote part of New Hampshire in July last year.
“We had no idea,” he said that she was to be arrested by the FBI.
“Ghislaine was married, with stepchildren, getting on with her life and then bang.
“She’s married, has a husband, two stepchildren.
“She was simply seeking to protect her family.
“She was not running from law enforcement.
“Suddenly he (Epstein) dies and they’ve got this really serious problem… it seems to me inescapable that the authorities decided they had to do something about it.”
Maxwell, a friend of Prince Andrew, had managed to hide from public view for a year before her FBI arrest.
Since then, she has been in jail in Manhattan awaiting trial.
Maxwell faces six charges relating to crimes alleged to have been committed alongside billionaire Epstein.
She is charged with transporting a minor for the purposes of criminal sexual activity, conspiring to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts and perjury.
Maxwell, who is awaiting trial later this year, has denied all the allegations.
Epstein’s victims have accused her of acting as his recruiter in the 1990s, convincing girls and young women to visit his properties in Florida, the Virgin Islands and New York, where he would abuse them.
The paedophile killed himself in August 2019 as he was being held while awaiting trial.
Maxwell’s attorneys have complained repeatedly about the conditions she has faced.
Her brother said his sister is being subjected to what he claims is “monstrous” treatment while being held.
“It’s a really ghastly experience. She’s lost 20 pounds, she’s losing her hair, she can’t concentrate,” her 64-year-old told Good Morning America today.
“She has a flashlight shone in her cell every 15 minutes during the night. So, she has no sleep of any real quality,” he said.
He claimed she had her life ruined by Epstein, was not part of his criminal enterprise despite what multiple women say, and is taking the blame for it because someone needs to and Epstein is dead.
“She’s a patsy for Jeffrey Epstein who they lost on their watch and they are taking it out on my sister and dammit, that’s wrong.
“She is not Epstein. Epstein was guilty. He did time. And he was gonna do a hell of a lot more time. But she is not him.
“And I don’t know how many times I have to say it. She deserves to be treated as Ghislaine, presumed innocent, get on with the defence, tell us what you’ve gotta tell us, put it up, and then let the jury decide.”
